The Brazen Palace



The Brazen Palace, or Lohapadasa, was first built by King Devanampiyathissa in 3rd Century BCE.it was later redesign as a chapter house, or sima hall, by King Duttagamini For the Mahavihara.One Side of the building Was 120 Meters long and it had a thousand rooms in its nine stories.
                                                               It is called the Brazen Palace because its roof was ones covered with sheets of gilt bronze. Made primary of wood, it burns down several times and was rebuilt for the last time King Parakramabahu 1 in the 12th century. A total of 1600 stone pillars supported the structure, most of which can still be seen today.
